Dreamy Draw Nature Trail
August 17, 2004

This is hike #7 in Stewart Green's book. Green states that this hike is only 1.5 miles round trip, but that seems very low to me. The ramadas at the trailhead are very inviting: a great place for a BBQ or picnic. There are also some very nice paved bicycle trails in this park.
To reach the trailhead from Scottsdale, go west on Lincoln Drive, then north on Hwy 51, off at the next exit which is Northern Avenue. Turn right to enter the park, drive about one mile to the parking lot at the trailhead.
A portion of the trail follows a dry wash.
This tunnel goes under the bicycle trail.
Wafer-thin schist (a metamorphic rock) is common to the area.
View of Squaw Peak.
Approaching the high point for this trail. I enjoyed the hike, but was frustrated in my route finding. Not that there is any danger of getting lost. So many trails, so few signs. Carry Green's book with you!
Looking back to the parking lot. As I said, there is no real danger of getting lost here.
Although you are less than two miles from the highway, there are some portions of the trail that let you feel as though you are far away.
On the trail.
On the trail.
