Classic White Sauce Recipe
From the Kitchen of Cheryl Qualls
Use this white sauce for scalloped potatoes and macaroni and cheese.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
Directions
- Remain calm. This is no big deal. I learned to do this in 4-H when I was 8 years old.
(My dad, God bless him, ate homemade mac & cheese every Wednesday night that year while I perfected my white sauce skills!)
- You'll need a medium saucepan and a wire whisk. Melt the butter on low heat. Whisk the flour into the melted butter. While "whisking" slowly add the milk to the butter mixture. Switch to a large, wooden spoon and turn the heat up to medium and stir constantly until the sauce thickens and comes to a slight boil.
- Ta Da!! I knew you could do it!!!
